The Introduction Course is not meant to create beautiful masterpieces. It is about understanding the whole process of creating a piece, and how to do it the correct way. Be aware that by making mistakes in any step of the process, you can damage the pieces of the other Members (for example during the firing), as well as cause expensive damage to the Studio's materials and equipment. As a Collective we build a community relying on each other. :)

Participants in the Introduction Course commit to joining Chamotte for at least three months (one month of the course + two month of chosen membership) with a one-month notice period.

If you're not sure about joining our community or just want to try it out, consider one of our interesting, no-commitment workshops.

Introduction Course 2/3 • July

The Introduction Course is designed for those interested in membership.

It aims to introduce you to the world of ceramics and teach you how to function independently in our pottery studio. You'll gain basic knowledge and skills in your chosen technique—a solid foundation for further skill development in our other workshops.

9 H Course | 2 H Supervised Practice | 230 € | Materials, Tools, Firings incl.

1st meeting (ca. 4 H)

a) THEORY - clay types, building techniques, firings, preparation of working space, drying process, cleaning, etc.
b) HANDBUILDING - learn hand building techniques and make properly a few pieces using simple and complex tools.

2nd meeting (2 H)

a) THEORY - master the drying process, preparation for the bisque firing.
b) TRIMMING - refine the pieces by hand.
+ extra - learn how to use engobes, learn how to add a handle.

3rd meeting (3 H)

-- 1st part (1 H)
a) THEORY - glazing techniques, preparing the pieces for the glaze firing.
b) GLAZING - glaze pieces with chosen techniques.

-- 2nd part:
STUDIO TOUR (2 H) - get to know the studio and its rules. Receive your dedicated shelf and access key.

4th meeting (2 H) /voluntary/

WHEEL THROWING and/or SUPERVISED PRACTICE of Handbuilding
Benefit from your first free time at the pottery studio. Our hand building mentor will be here to clear all your doubts, answer any questions and teach you particular skills essential to your projects. Our wheel throwing mentor will also be here to show you the basics you need to know to start wheel throwing.

Participants in the Introduction Course commit to joining Chamotte for at least three months (one month of the course + two months of chosen membership) with a one-month notice period.

If you're not sure about joining our community or just want to try it out, consider one of our interesting, no-commitment workshops.

Sneak Peek - Tuesday

The renovations at Chamotte are rounding the final corner before our grand opening. There are still a few pieces of furniture to assemble, pipes to connect, and lights to hang.

We thought some of you might like a sneak peek of the studio, meet us in person, and see what your future pottery space will look like!

This day we will definitely be in the studio working on the finishing touches and will leave our doors open for the curious:

Please note, this isn't the grand opening or an official open house—there's still time for that.
